Summer fun opportunities are endless in the Woodlands, but if you’re trying to beat the heat in the comfort of your own home, having fun activities ready in advance is so helpful! We want to share some of our favorite ways to stay cool at home in the summer heat.
Summer Reading Programs
Some of the best ways to keep kids happy and cool is to encourage them to find books that they love. Our local libraries are hosting a “Tails and Tales” themed reading program in June and July for children through ages 12. H-E-B is giving special prizes to kids who read and log 10 books through the summer, and the Scholastic Read-a-Palooza allows kids to log their reading minutes online to redeem for prizes! Help your kids get ahead and grow their imaginations through the power of reading.
Living Room Camp Out
Pop a tent or build a blanket fort in your living room! Go all out and fill it with all the pillows, sleeping bags, flashlights, and blankets you can find. Set up their favorite snacks and a movie on the big screen so you can cozy up for some fun family time. String lights can step it up even one more notch to make your kids feel like they’re sleeping under the stars – without the bugs or Houston humidity!
Master Chef Jr.
Most kids love being in the kitchen. What better way to encourage their curiosity than by allowing them to cook alongside you? Bake a cake for your elderly neighbor, cookies to take to the fire department, or even let them be a part of planning and cooking meals for the week! Kids are more likely to eat the things they’ve helped cook, so if you’ve got a picky eater on your hands, get them involved and excited about the process. Choosing theme nights or letting them plan a fancy dinner with the best China can be a great way to let them be involved in the fun!
Staying home doesn’t have to be boring. There are so many fun activities that are inexpensive, available, and most importantly, keep you cool in the comfort of your home.
